Justin here...I want to begin my very first guest blog post by saying that “I love being a dad!” I mean I really LOVE being a dad. I love being a dad so much that I can’t remember what my life was like for the past 25 years. This might be the lack of sleep that Lucy provides or maybe it’s because all I want to do is spend every waking moment with Lucy and Abby. So, in honor of my very first Father’s Day, I wanted to write a blog post about the things I love about being a father, and then list a few things that I have learned these past three months.
The first thing that I love about being a father is that when I look at Lucy, I can see both Abby and I in her perfect little face. When she smiles I can see Abby’s cheeks and pretty smile while the length of her hair resembles mine. She is such a beautiful little girl, which is gonna make things difficult when the boys come around. I will speak of that nightmare later on.
Another thing that I love about being a father is the challenge of showing/teaching Lucy as much as we can before she gets the crazy idea of leaving us to go to college. They made internet college for kids whose parents don’t want their kids to leave them.
I am really looking forward to family vacations, Miami sports and of course the INDY 500.
The last and greatest thing about becoming a father is figuring out that becoming a father is the greatest thing that will ever happen to me. Now, I didn’t figure this out when we were in the hospital waking up every hour for this and that. It came to me at 7:00 a.m. the first day back at work when I hung Lucy’s pictures up in my office. I think I called Abby so much that my cell phone battery died. Those were the longest 8 hours of my life.
Overall, Father’s Day means something different to everyone. To me it is the celebration of my beautiful family. I consider myself the luckiest Dad alive! Furthermore, Lucy still has a lot to teach me about fatherhood. After all, it is a lot easier to learn when you love the subject!
