Little Miss Doodle is now officially 3 days past her due date (although it feels MUCH longer). And while I've let her THINK she is in control of the situation, as her mother I may have to show her that I ultimately have the upper hand. That's right. If she doesn't come to join us on her own accord, I will be induced on Saturday at 11:00 AM. Woohoo!!
If you would like the nitty-gritty details from my doctor's appointment, read below. If not, just know J and I will officially be parents of a beautiful baby girl on Saturday! I can't wait!
....So, this week LMD and I have had 2 doctor's appointments. Both appointments included an ultrasound and a non-stress test. The ultrasound was to measure how much amniotic fluid is present. The amount of fluid that is present is an indicator of how well the placenta is delivering nutrients to the baby...so not enough fluid means the baby might not be getting everything she should. The non-stress test monitors the baby's heart rate for about 15 minutes, making sure she's not in distress or anything like that. LMD passed both tests, both days with flying colors. I actually have the opposite problem when it comes to amniotic fluid. Apparently I have a LOT, and the amount of fluid actually increased from Monday to Thursday. (The doctor said our little girl is trying to build her own Olympic size pool in there.) Too much fluid could indicate a sugar intolerance (or something like that), but at this stage in the game that's very unlikely. However, the doctor didn't want things to go on indefinitely, so that is when we collectively decided to make Saturday our end date. There is also a chance that our Little Miss Doodle isn't quite so little, so we also don't want to give her the freedom of growing to the size of a toddler before coming out. Her size is still just a prediction, which the doctor said is definitely "less than reliable"....
The good news is we got to see our little girl TWICE this week via ultrasound. Today I asked to see her face. LMD was being camera shy and covering most of it up with her arm, but I think I could still detect some chubby cheeks :) Also, I asked the ultrasound technician if she could double check that our Little Miss Doodle is still in fact a MISS Doodle. And, yep, she definitely is!
SO, unless you hear from me, J, or LMD herself before Saturday, you know where we will be and when. The doctor thinks just a little pitocin to get things moving could be all I need. LMD may just need a little bit of coaxing. Apparently she is having too much fun in her Olympic size pool!
