Right now you are missing quite a snow storm. While this snow storm makes some everyday tasks a little more difficult, it has also made some more enjoyable. While getting up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom again isn’t always fun, I’ve enjoyed getting up, walking in your room, and watching the snow fall peacefully and quietly outside. Even though driving is more difficult it is also so much more beautiful with everything all covered in layers of snow. I also can’t help but think of the end of Ghostbusters (I’m sure your dad will watch it with you anytime you want) when there is Stay Puffed marshmallow covering the city of New York (we’ll go exploring there someday, I promise). There are times when the snow could definitely be confused with Stay Puffed marshmallow, just trust me on that one. With all the snow right now, I can't help but imagine showing you snow for the first time. I can’t wait to see your eyes light up while big white flakes fall from the sky and make everything look all marshmallow covered. I hope I can convince you that snow is magical and beautiful like my mom convinced me so that every time it snows, you look out in wonderment instead of disgust. Taking walks in the deep snow at night help make the snow more magical, just trust your grandma and I. After all, it’s all in how you look at it (that’s a Harry and the Hendersons line that I’m sure you will be accustomed to as well…it’s right before Harry slides down in front of the windshield and scares the Hendersons – don’t worry I’ll warn you when it’s coming). If you learn that line early in life, you can help make some of the most difficult takes a little easier. It’s all in how you look at it. Every season has its beauty, and hopefully your dad and I will be able to help you see it.
This past month has been filled with seeing things in a new light. When I look at our backyard, I picture us outside playing, whether it be in the snow, under the summer sun, or in the fall leaves. When I look at our back seat in the car, I picture you sitting there, and looking out the window at the places we will take you. I love looking at your stroller and car seat and imagining the places we will go together as a family. Your dad and I can’t wait to take you to the zoo, especially to see the elephants….those are our favorites. We also can’t wait to take you to a Reds baseball game. You don’t have to love baseball, but we want to teach to appreciate the timeless experience of being outdoors in the summer, eating cotton candy (after all you may inherit your mother’s sweet tooth), and hearing the crack of the baseball on the bat. We’ll also watch Field of Dreams together which will help you understand and appreciate the tradition baseball. We especially can’t wait to take you to your first Miami hockey game. You will be better dressed than either of your parents in your Miami hockey jersey that will probably only fit for one season, but will be totally worth it. We can’t wait to teach you how to “Jump Around,” which I’m sure both your grandpas will gladly show you how this is done. These are the things your Dad and I talk about all the time now. Every day that we wait in anticipation for you to be here, it’s “Oo, I can’t wait for baby girl to go [here] with us,” and “I can’t wait to show baby girl [this].” Your dad is especially excited to read you all the books you’ve been accumulating. Don’t tell him I told you, but he’s been practicing by reading to the cats. Arie actually plays along and looks at your dad and the book and then back at your dad again.
Speaking of the cats, we’ve explained to all three of them that they have to take good care of themselves because they are expected to still be around to help pack you up for college. Passing along our love for animals will only help enrich your life, as few things are more precious than your childhood pets. (Your cousin Stefanie will gladly show you what it’s like to love animals.) You will surely recognize Philly’s purr once you are here because he has been cuddling with you in my belly throughout my whole pregnancy. However he knows that he isn’t allowed to put pressure on my belly now, so he lays on my chest to be equally close to both of us. I’ll warn you now that Philly has some quirks leftover from growing up in a cat gang (aka feral colony). While we joke about his gang days, he wouldn’t be our lovable and appreciative cat Philly without his rough past. I can't wait to see you interact with the cats for the first time. I know it probably won't be pretty, as I suspect there might be some fur pulling, but hopefully your dad and I can eventually teach you what it's like to appreciate and care for pets.
Above are just a few of the places we want to take you, events we want to experience with you, and things we want to teach you. I’m sure the list will never end as you will grow older and be capable of doing and learning so many wonderful things. Your dad and I are so excited for the journey you will take us on.
Love,
Mom & Dad
