Mommy Brain

For those of you readers who are still with me (which probably comes down to my mom and Justin) I would like to explain my blogging absence the best I can. I've been suffering from a condition called "Mommy Brain." This strange phenomenon came over me quite some time ago, lets see, when was it, oh yeah...March 14, also known as the day Lucy was born. You see, it's not something one can prepare for. It's not something someone can ward off with exercise or eating right. It comes from the birth of one's own child. On the day Lucy was born a [big] portion of my brain was sectioned off and devoted to Lucy. That part of my brain was no longer available for things like making sure my shoes matched, remembering birthdays, ensuring the car has gas, brushing my teeth twice a day, or grooming the cats to prevent fur balls (sorry Arie). Now, that [big] portion of my brain is devoted to loving and caring for this new little person. Lucy's waking hours are spent making sure she's not too hot, too cold, too tired, too hungry, or too bored. I mean it's not like she can verbalize something along the lines of, "Hey Mom, I am so hot in this car seat I feel like I'm sitting on the surface of the sun." I have to have the brain power to constantly take these things into consideration. It takes the phrase "scatter-brained" to a whole new level. Which is very unfortunate when trying to coordinate the selling of one's house while simultaneously buying another [which I promise to fill you more in later]. I got a call from Justin that went a little something like this, "Uh, Ab, they are here shutting off the gas at our new house. I tried to reason with them, but they are definitely shutting it off." To which I replied with, "uhhhhhhhh, yeah, I think I remember my mom sending me an email reminding me to not forget to call about transferring the utilities to our name." Thoughts, very important thoughts, are literally seeping out my ears the moment Lucy needs me. While I was standing in line at the pharmacy picking up my prescription that was ready 4 days ago, I was thinking, "I need to go to Target and get-" when suddenly my brain switches to- "Oh Lucy, what's wrong? Watch out the claw is going to get you!" Followed by a giant gummy baby smile and maybe a little giggle causing my heart to swell and suddenly everything is right in the world and what more could I possibly need? Yeah, when I went to Target that day I didn't get whatever it was I almost remembered I needed. So you can see how this little blog of mine has taken a back seat. New ideas to write about pop into my head all the time, but getting my thoughts together to make sense is easier said than done. I'm sure this condition is something that I will learn to master over time, and I will get better at balancing everything. However then Lucy will learn to crawl or walk to which I'm expecting the "Mommy Brain" to get a lot worse. Eh hem, "I can't forget to pick up- Ah! Lucy, don't touch that! ...Wait do that again, but let me get the camera first." Here are some pictures of moments that were so cute they just had to be captured. Moments when something important was just about to be written down or carried out, but then Lucy smiled and I forgot it all again.
