Easter!

Justin and I were so excited to celebrate our first holiday with Lucy! Even though she was only 3 weeks old, we wanted to make the day truly special. What better tradition to start on Easter than an Easter egg hunt! Lucy needed a little help finding all her eggs, but her dad and I were more than happy to assist her in her hunt. I thought long and hard about what to put in the eggs. She can't enjoy candy or toys just yet, so after lots of thought Justin and I decided to fill the eggs with memories that we don't want to forget from her first 3 weeks of life. Justin and I each wrote 6 things that we wanted to remember about her at this time as well as some things that we wanted her to know later in her life. We video recorded the entire hunt and read each memory out loud for her to hear when she is older. I thought I would share our memories with you...

Dear Lucy,

"You are just like me in that you hate to be woken up. It takes about 5 minutes of stretching, yawning, squinting, and wiggling before you are ready to open your eyes and join the world."

"This week the weather has been very nice. You really enjoy swinging in the gazebo, as well as walks in your stroller. You are such a joy to be outside with."

"Your arms and legs are always moving just like they were always moving in my belly when I was pregnant with you. I loved being pregnant with you in my belly, but I love having you here with us even more." (Yes, I got choked up when reading this one to her.)

Singing to you really calms you down. Right now your favorite is "Baby" by Justin Bieber...he is quite the heart throb for the youngins. I also sing "This is it" by Michael Jackson and "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga to you. You heard those a lot while I was pregnant with you." (Please don't judge me for my choice of songs. I really just sing what I know the words to!)

"You have been wearing socks with "Mary Jane" shoes printed on them. You look SO cute in them. We always joke with you about wearing your shoes in the house and sleeping in your shoes. The joke never gets old. Your parents think they are pretty funny."

"The Easter Bunny brought you "I Love Lucy" Seasons 1 & 2 for Easter. We have already watched the Vitameatavegemin episode together. I can't wait to continue the mother-daughter tradition of watching "I Love Lucy" together."

Love, Mom

Dear Lucy,

"I miss you a lot when I am at work. I call your mom a lot to hear what you have been up to. Sometimes I can hear you through the phone."

"You really like when we rub your back. I also like to play with your hair! You are so pretty!"

"You are perfect! I love you and your mom more than anything!"

"Everyone tells us how long you are and how long your fingers are. People also tell us that you have great coloring. We can't believe how beautiful you are. We love you so much."

"Bouncing you and singing to you really help to make you feel better."

"You like to face the TV. It helps to calm you down. I think that you love hockey like me! You and I have watched a lot of Blue Jackets games, and I know you will love the Cincinnati Reds like your parents!"

Love, Dad

This Easter was one that I will never forget. Justin and I were two proud parents all day while we got to show Lucy what family traditions are all about.

Here are some pictures from the day :) Can you tell just how happy Justin and I are?

Here is Lucy in her Easter outfit.

Very proud Dad.

Very proud Mom.
